Born in Russia but raised in London, Stasya Krestyanov was the eldest child and only daughter of Durmstrang alumni Maksimillian and Tatyana. Her father worked in the Russian Ministry of Magic before transferring to the British one shortly after Stasya was born. Stasya grew up fully prepared for and expecting an arranged marriage, so she spent little time while at Hogwarts dating, as she saw it as a useless endeavor. Rather, she spent her time working on her passion: potions. She was a potions prodigy, creating her own potions and spending hours poring over potions texts. For quite a while, it seemed as though it would be arranged for her to marry Feliks Baklanov, the skeevy son of her father's close friend Romochka. She greatly disliked Feliks, but to her delight, she met Vladimir Krum over the winter hols at one of her mother's many parties, and he was seen by her parents as a far superior suitor, despite the family's friendship with the Baklanov family. Stasya and Vladimir began exchanging letters, and their engagement was announced by the families shortly before Stasya was to finish Hogwarts for the year.
