History
Margaret Poppy Withypoll Pomfrey was the third and last child, and only daughter, of Langley and Poppy Pomfrey. As they had with their two sons, Langley and Poppy gave their daughter names taken from both family lines, although Margaret desperately wishes they had chosen anything for a second middle name other than Withypoll. The Pomfreys lived a rather basic life. Poppy was a housewife, tutoring the children in the home, while Langley worked as an Obliviator for the Ministry of Magic.
Life was good for the three Pomfrey children. Baxter received his Hogwarts letter shortly after his eleventh birthday (1932), and he was sorted into Gryffindor. Just a few years later (1934), Kendrick joined him there, though he was sorted into their mother's former house, Hufflepuff. Finally, in 1938, Margaret joined them at the school, where she was sorted into Ravenclaw, their father's former house. Margaret's early years at Hogwarts were idyllic, until tragedy struck in her third year. Two days before Margaret's fourteenth birthday, Poppy Clover Pomfrey was killed by a bomb dropped on Birmingham (where the family lived) by the Luftwaffe (the German air force). Margaret and Kendrick (Baxter was already out of school) were pulled out of school for a few weeks.
When she returned to Hogwarts, Margaret was something of a changed girl. Before she had been rather outgoing and friendly, and while she was still friendly, she became a lot more withdrawn and quiet. Although before her mother's death she was reasonably afraid of wars, she now hated them intensely. Because in wars people die on both sides, and both sides always think they're right, she made a conscious decision to remain a neutral party in any conflicts. She also began focusing on ways to help that didn't require choosing sides: it was then that she decided she wanted to be a healer.
Now in her fifth year, she is still moving forward towards her goal of being a healer, and she has crawled a bit out of her shell, but her mother is still a very touchy subject for her, and she feels jealousy and a bit of depression whenever she sees other girls with their mothers, or hears other people talking about their mothers.
