Julian Weyland was a temporary substitute as Charms teacher when Professor Flitwick took a couple of years off from teaching. He was a charms expert and came from a well-to-do family. Both of his parents were involved in espionage, and Julian himself was a member of the Order, as a contact between the Order and informants spread around the United Kingdom. Most of his contacts were either through his parents or as a result of his own travels. In the fall of 1975, he began dating Margery Dove, the new Herbology professor at Hogwarts. While he and Margery were involved, he received an owl from a woman in Wales, informing him that he had a daughter. After an initial visit to meet the woman and child, he discovered that the child was, indeed, his, the result of a one-night stand while he had been traveling around the United Kingdom. He began visiting his daughter on weekends. Julian and Margery continued to grow closer (she didn't mind him having a child; in fact, she was divorced and her own daughter, Ellette, was a student at Hogwarts) until Margery and Ellette were killed by Death Eaters on Christmas Eve. After Margery's death, Julian "disappeared," but in reality he had merely gone to Wales to live closer to his daughter and be more a part of her life.
