The daughter of a scholar, Dorcas Meadows was taught from an early age to enjoy books and learning. She was a smart girl, but she was obsessed with pressing herself to be better, and she could not tolerate dull wits or stupidity in others. In her fifth year, she briefly dated Caradoc Dearborn, until he dumped her for being too uptight. Dorcas had a long-standing semi-rivalry with Caradoc's best friend, fellow sixth year Marlene McKinnon for no real reason besides the fact that Marlene thought that Dorcas had a huge rod up her arse and Dorcas thought that Marlene had been hit in the head with a bludger too many times (though that had never actually happened) and didn't take her studies seriously enough. When Caradoc and Marlene began dating, Dorcas didn't mind because they "deserved each other." Dorcas places a lot of importance in honesty and straight-forward-ness. She refuses to play games and hates the girls and boys who do. She will accept nearly anything that comes, just so long as people are honest about it. In her sixth year, she began semi-dating Gryffindor seventh year Sean Clarkson, though it started out as just her having fun with pushing him to see if he would break (… and that wasn't a game, she was like that with everyone). However, Sean admitted to still loving his ex-girlfriend, Gryffindor sixth year Adrianna Baptiste, with whom he had broken up the previous year because of her family. A small triangle erupted between the three, and Dorcas stepped back from Sean to allow him to go back to Adrianna, even though Adrianna and Sean both swore to Dorcas that they did not want to get back together. When Dorcas' best friend and roommate, Autumn Davis, died on Christmas Eve, Sean was there for her. However, shortly thereafter, Sean admitted to Dorcas that he did want to get back together with Adrianna, and Dorcas refused to speak to either of them afterwards, for lying to her in the first place about not wanting to get back together. Dorcas also had a long-standing rivalry with seventh year Hufflepuff Bertha Jorkins. Dorcas hated Bertha for her constant lies and twistings of the truth, and Bertha just liked gossiping about Dorcas.
