The youngest child and only daughter of Leo and Abigail, Cassidy Abercrombie was somewhat ignored as a child, in favor of her older brother. Richard was a model student while Cassidy could barely keep up passable grades. All Cassidy wanted to do was to meet her parents' expectations and do well in school like Richard. The gap between Cassidy and her family widened when she received her Hogwarts owl at the age of 11. As Cassidy left for her first year of school, her family feared that when she came home, she would turn them all into newts. Cassidy was sorted into Hufflepuff, but she didn't really understand why everyone had to be split up, especially since some people seemed to share some traits that other houses (besides their own) were supposed to have. Cassidy still only managed passable grades at Hogwarts, the only exception to that being Herbology, which she excelled in, at least partly because of her love of plants. In her fourth year, Cassidy signed up for the inter-house tournament and was paired up with a fellow fourth year, Slytherin Regulus Black. Although there was some initial dislike between the two (due to Regulus' strict pureblood upbringing and dislike of "mudbloods" like Cassidy), they began to get along better as they had to work together, until eventually Cassidy found herself liking him, and then they began to date in secret. A particularly nasty spell was used on Cassidy during the Hogsmeade attack, which led to her constantly having to face her intense fear of heights. She begged Regulus to help her reverse the spell, but was then horrified when he used it on a fellow student. Her relationship with Regulus and the secretive nature of it led to a rift between her and her best friends (and roommates), Amelia Bones and Ji-Eun Kang, both of whom hated Regulus and the other Slytherins.
